Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Volume On

We open on a filmi track with big travelling steps and rolling shoulders — the kind of start that lifts your heart rate and quietly retires your self-consciousness inside one song.

10–25 mins

Face and Feet Together

Bollywood tells stories with the whole body, so we drill the expressive hands lifted from classical dance, the eye-lines that make them read, and the rhythmic footwork holding it all up.

25–40 mins

Learning the Number

This week's routine goes together in short blocks, pulled from a genuine hit, and it gets taught to your face just as seriously as to your feet.

40–50 mins

Bhangra Burst

A shot of Punjabi folk to lift the roof — driving shoulders, bounce and kicks — because a Bollywood hour has no business finishing with anyone still breathing easy.

50–60 mins

Take One

The whole routine runs top to bottom with the volume high, a phone out for a keepsake if you want one, and a cool-down stretch to close.

About Bollywood Classes in Bristol

Bollywood takes a bit of everything — the graceful hand shapes of classical Indian dance, the shoulder-driven bounce of bhangra, a little hip-hop swagger and filmi romance — and cranks the colour up. Our Bollywood dance classes in Bristol teach real routines to the current chart soundtracks, drama and facial expression very much part of the deal. The workout you barely notice; the fun is unmissable.

Bristol takes to it with ease. This is a young, mixed city with two large universities and no shortage of appetite for a loud night out, and Bollywood surfaces at student showcases, community events and every wedding sangeet in between. Learn a number here and there is somewhere real to dance it before long.

Classes run at partner studios in Stokes Croft and the city centre, the exact venue confirmed on booking and a short walk from Temple Meads. Some dancers come polishing a sangeet, just as many come purely for the cardio and the songs — and we take sangeet sessions to venues right across the West of England. The train in also skips the Clean Air Zone and the parking.

Why Choose Bollywood in Bristol?

Choreography to Actual Songs

You learn to genuine tracks — this year's chart-toppers and the wedding anthems everyone can already hum — never a woolly, Bollywood-ish backing that leads nowhere.

The Loudest Good Mood

The whole style is built for joy — enormous moves, expressions at full tilt and music that will not sit quietly. Nobody leaves this class in a whisper.

Exercise That Feels Like a Party

Give a full routine everything you have and you have done a serious cardio session — it lands about halfway through the second chorus, whatever your watch tries to tell you.

Sangeet-Ready

Preparing a number for a wedding or sangeet? Send us the song and the day, and a blend of group and private sessions will get your family sharp — we travel to venues right across the West Country.

Your Bollywood Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Weeks 1–4

Straight In

Getting Started

You are on a genuine routine from lesson one — stripped down, loud, and finished inside a month. Bollywood skips the gentle introduction and just hits play.

What to Wear

Leggings or joggers, a top you are happy to sweat through and clean trainers. Pack plenty of water — you will get through the lot.

Months 2–3

Expressions Switch On

Selling the Story

The gestures and eye-lines cross over from faintly embarrassing to completely essential — which, in a Bollywood routine, is exactly what they are.

Lungs Catch Up

A whole track no longer wipes you out, and the second chorus that used to finish you off loses its menace.

Months 4–6

Building Range

Mixing Styles

Delicate classical shapes one block, thumping bhangra the next, filmi romance after that — a wide movement vocabulary piles up quickly.

Quicker to Learn

Choreography starts landing sooner, and a block of counts you once counted through becomes a phrase you simply read at a glance.

Month 6+

Ready for an Audience

Sharper Work

Longer numbers, work in formation and a sharper eye for detail — the step up from dancing along to actually performing.

Where It Leads

A scene-stealing turn at a family sangeet, a spot in a university showcase, or simply a weekly hour you would fight to keep.

Bollywood in Bristol FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Which part of Bristol are the Bollywood classes in? +

They run at partner studios in Stokes Croft and the city centre, with the venue given to you on booking. Both sit minutes from Temple Meads and the central bus routes, so the whole region reaches class without a car in the Clean Air Zone.

What is the price of a Bollywood class in Bristol? +

£8 a drop-in, shown plainly on the page instead of behind a form — pay by the class, no membership, no strings attached. Block discounts kick in once your studio's regular slot is set.

I genuinely can't dance — will I cope in a Bollywood class? +

Better than cope. Everything is taught in short blocks you repeat until they stick, the room is gleefully unserious, and keenness more than covers a missed step. In a beginner class, nearly everyone is on their first routine ever, right next to you.

What should I wear? +

Comfortable workout gear and trainers with support — this hour really moves. Add a dupatta or a few jingly bits for fun if you like, but the one rule that counts is clothes you can sweat hard in.

Must I know Hindi or the movies first? +

Not even slightly. The teacher tells you what each song is about so the expressions land, and the routine tells the story on its own regardless. A fair few of our dancers discover the films because of the class rather than before it.

How is Bollywood different from bhangra? +

Related, but not the same thing. Bhangra is a Punjabi folk style with its own bouncing, shoulder-first signature and the dhol drum driving it; Bollywood is cinema choreography that borrows from everything in sight, bhangra included. We visit that folk energy regularly, so you get a taste of both.

Can you prepare a routine for a sangeet or wedding in Bristol? +

Delightedly — it is among our favourite work. Send the song and your date through, and we will plan a run of group or private sessions, at your venue anywhere in the West of England, so the whole party is sharp for the big day.

What music will we dance to? +

Playback numbers from across the decades — golden-age classics through to this year's chart soundtracks — the big cinema hits, basically. Every new routine arrives with a new song, and we will happily take a request.

Are there Bollywood classes for children in Bristol? +

There are — we run age-banded children's and teen groups with DBS-checked teachers alongside the adult classes. Bollywood makes a cracking first style for a child: tuneful, energetic and impossible to stay shy in. Just add your child's age to the form.
