Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 min

Posture and presence

Shoulders back, chin level, and the unhurried burlesque walk around the room — the single most transferable skill on the whole timetable.

10–25 min

The classic vocabulary

Shimmies, bumps, hip rolls and the art of the glance over the shoulder, each broken down and drilled with more laughter than any other class we run.

25–40 min

Routine work

The week's moves are stitched into a short vintage-styled routine — think glove peel mimed with an imaginary glove; nothing is removed but doubt.

40–50 min

Perform it (to nobody)

Small groups run the routine while the rest cheer from the side. Strictly voluntary, weirdly addictive, and where most of the confidence gets built.

50–60 min

Slow-down and stretch

A languid cool-down in keeping with the style, plus chat about music, era styling and what next week's routine will borrow from.

About Burlesque Classes in Doncaster

Burlesque in our Doncaster studio is the teasing, comic, gloriously vintage art form — not a striptease class. Clothes stay on, always; what comes off is self-consciousness. Over an hour a week we teach the posture, isolations and deadpan wit of classic showgirl performance, set to big-band swagger and modern tracks that share its confidence. £8, city centre, door closed to onlookers.

The crowd is wonderfully mixed: hen-season converts who came for a party and stayed for the technique, professionals who wanted an hour of theatrical silliness after work, and plenty of people who simply saw the word burlesque and got curious. Doncaster is a city that enjoys getting dressed up — the September race crowds prove it annually — and this class is where that instinct learns choreography.

No heels needed to start, no body type required ever. Fans, gloves and boas make guest appearances once the basics are in.

Why Choose Burlesque in Doncaster?

Confidence, engineered

The whole style is a masterclass in taking up space gracefully. Regulars report it leaking into presentations, dates and difficult Mondays.

Character over cardio

Burlesque is theatrical first — you build a persona, a walk and a raised eyebrow. Fitness sneaks in while you are busy being fabulous.

£8 flat

One price, drop-in or block. The feather boa fund is a separate and entirely personal matter.

A closed room

No spectators, no filming without consent, no performance obligation. The studio door is shut and what happens behind it is yours.

Your Burlesque Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

The first block

The walk and the look

You acquire the slow, deliberate burlesque walk and the over-the-shoulder glance — and stop apologising with your posture.

Core moves

Shimmies, bumps and hip circles are in the body. You know a grind from a roll and can do either on the beat.

02

Months two and three

Routine fluency

You can carry a two-minute vintage routine start to finish with the character switched on the whole way through.

Prop play

Gloves and fans enter the picture — mimed or real — and you learn why a slow glove peel is comedy, tension and choreography at once.

03

Six months

Your own persona

A stage name may or may not exist by now, but the persona does: your comic timing, your era, your signature move.

Musical range

From 1940s swing to modern cabaret-pop, you can style the same routine three ways and know which suits the song.

04

The long game

Optional showcases

For those who want it, occasional voluntary showcase evenings exist — friendly rooms, huge cheers, zero obligation, ever.

Confidence with receipts

The quiet upgrade in how you stand, walk and hold eye contact is permanent. Burlesque gives it; nobody can repossess it.

Burlesque in Doncaster FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Let's settle it — do I take anything off? +

No. Clothes stay on in every class, full stop. Burlesque here is the theatrical art of tease, character and comic timing — the only reveal is how confident you turn out to be.

Where in Doncaster does the class run? +

A private city-centre studio near the Hall Gate side of town, walkable from Doncaster station. Exact address arrives with your booking confirmation, and the room is closed to anyone not taking part.

What does it cost? +

£8 a class, flat — identical price for a drop-in or a full four-week block. Props are provided when routines use them.

I'm a total beginner with zero rhythm — will I survive? +

You will thrive. Burlesque is the most forgiving style we teach because attitude covers everything; the moves are slow, repeated, and taught with the humour the art form demands.

What should I wear to my first class? +

Leggings or shorts, a top you feel good in, and either bare feet or clean trainers. Heels are welcome later but never required — several of our best regulars perform flat-footed and magnificent.

Is there an age limit? +

Eighteen and up, no ceiling. Burlesque history is full of performers who peaked in their fifties and sixties; our room reflects that and is friendlier for it.

Is it only for women? +

No — boylesque is a thriving art form and all genders are welcome. The techniques of tease, timing and swagger are universal; so is the applause.

Can we book burlesque for a hen party in Doncaster? +

Yes — it is one of our most popular hen themes and has its own page and party format. This weekly class is the technique version with the lights up; the hen version adds the sparkle and the £140 flat-rate group booking.

How do I book my first session? +

The form below does it. Pick a date, bring £8 and an open mind, and leave the self-doubt in the cloakroom — it will not be readmitted.
