Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Posture & Shimmy Warm-Up

Roll the shoulders back, find the hip circle and wake up the shimmy — burlesque begins with carriage, and ten minutes in you are already standing differently.

10–25 mins

Classic Vocabulary

Bumps, grinds, the slow burlesque walk and the art of the pause — the signature moves broken down step by step, with the tease carried entirely by attitude.

25–40 mins

The Routine

The week's moves stack into a short cabaret-style routine — gloves, chairs and feather-boa flourishes used as props for comedy and drama, never as things to remove.

40–50 mins

Persona Practice

Every burlesque dancer has an alter ego. This is where you try yours on — eye contact, expression and playing the routine to an imaginary back row.

50–60 mins

Slow Strut & Stretch

A final full run at performance pace, one last strut across the floor, then a proper cool-down while the adrenaline settles.

About Burlesque Classes in Glasgow

Burlesque is the class people book with a nervous giggle and leave planning their next one. Our Glasgow sessions teach the classic vocabulary — shimmies, bumps, the slow walk, the over-the-shoulder look — with every stitch of clothing staying exactly where it started. It is a technique class dressed up as a night out: posture, musicality and timing, delivered with a wink.

We teach at partner studios in the Merchant City and over in Finnieston, with the exact address confirmed when you book. Both sit minutes from a Subway stop — the Clockwork Orange loops right past — and Glasgow Central is a short walk from our city-centre base. With the Low Emission Zone covering the centre, the train genuinely beats the car.

Classes are for adults only, every level and every body. Plenty of groups come through before a big night — the Merchant City bars are on the doorstep — and plenty of regulars come purely for the posture and the cheek of it. At £8 a drop-in, it costs less than the first round.

Why Choose Burlesque in Glasgow?

Clothes Stay On

The tease is in the attitude, not the outfit. Nothing comes off in class — ever — which is precisely why complete beginners relax so quickly.

Confidence That Travels

The posture, eye contact and self-possession you practise here follow you out the door — into work presentations, wedding dances and Saturday nights.

Every Body Welcome

Burlesque celebrates the dancer you already are. Our Glasgow classes span twenties to seventies, all shapes and all levels of coordination.

Built for a Night Out

Studios sit minutes from the Merchant City bars and the Finnieston strip, so class-then-cocktails is the natural order of a Glasgow evening.

Your Burlesque Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Find Your Strut

Getting Started

Posture, the walk, your first shimmies and bumps. The aim is comfort in your own skin — the choreography is just the excuse.

What to Wear

Leggings or anything stretchy, plus whatever makes you feel good. Flats are fine; small heels welcome once your ankles ask for them.

Month 2–3

Build the Vocabulary

Technique

Layering the classic moves into longer sequences, working with gloves, boas and chairs, and starting to phrase everything to the music.

Performance

Playing routines to the room instead of the mirror — the moment burlesque stops being steps and starts being a show.

Month 4–6

Develop the Persona

Your Alter Ego

Naming and shaping your stage self — the costume of confidence that makes big movement feel natural instead of exposed.

Style

Choosing between classic bump-and-grind glamour and modern cabaret comedy, then blending the two into something recognisably yours.

Month 6+

Own the Room

Advanced Practice

Full-length routines, character work and improvisation — reading a room and holding it for three whole minutes.

What Comes Next

Showcase evenings with the class, themed nights out, or simply carrying the posture through the rest of your life.

Burlesque in Glasgow FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where in Glasgow do the burlesque classes take place? +

At partner studios in the Merchant City and Finnieston — we confirm the exact venue when you book your first session. Both areas are easy to reach: the Subway loops past, Glasgow Central is a short walk, and evening classes finish with half the city's bars within strolling distance.

How much is a burlesque class in Glasgow? +

£8 for a drop-in session, paid as you go with no membership tying you down. Discounted block bookings arrive once your studio's regular timetable is confirmed.

Do I really keep my clothes on? +

Yes — completely and always. Burlesque class teaches the tease as an attitude: the look, the pause, the shimmy. Props like gloves and boas are played with, but nothing is removed. It is a dance class, not a strip class.

Do I need any dance experience for burlesque? +

None at all. The classic burlesque moves are deliberately simple to pick up — the skill is in how you deliver them, and that gets coached from your very first shimmy.

What should I wear to a burlesque class? +

Whatever you can move and feel good in — leggings and a top is the usual answer. Flat shoes or trainers are fine; a small sturdy heel is welcome once you want one. Fishnets strictly optional.

Am I too old or not the right shape for burlesque? +

Burlesque is the most body-diverse class we run in Glasgow, and the art form has always celebrated performers of every age and figure. If you can walk slowly across a room, you already own the core technique.

Can men come to burlesque classes? +

Absolutely — boylesque is a thriving branch of the art form, and everyone over 17 is welcome in our Glasgow sessions. The moves adapt; the attitude is universal.

Can you run a burlesque class for my hen party in Glasgow? +

Yes — private burlesque hen sessions are one of our most-booked formats, at a studio or at your own Glasgow venue. See our burlesque hen party page or mention the occasion on the form.

Will I have to perform in front of people? +

Only ever in front of the class, and only when you want to. Some groups build towards informal showcase evenings; plenty of dancers happily keep it between themselves and the mirror.
