Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Warm And Wake Up
Cardio to a loud current track, then isolations through the neck, ribs and hips. Commercial asks the body to hit hard and clean, so we spend real minutes switching those sharp points on.
Groove Foundations
Before any routine we drill the bounce, the pocket and the weight shifts that make choreography sit inside the music. Get the groove and the moves stop looking pasted on top.
Break Down The Choreography
The teacher feeds the routine in short counts of eight, slow and repeated, naming every hit. No one is expected to catch it first pass — we layer it until the shape is in your body.
Run It To Tempo
Counts come up to full speed and we run the section in small groups, swapping the front row so everyone gets a go facing the mirror. This is where it starts to feel like the video.
Full Out And Cool Down
One or two committed run-throughs of the whole thing, filmed if the group wants it, then a proper stretch for the hips, calves and shoulders you just worked.
About Commercial Classes in Lancaster
Commercial dance is the polished, camera-ready choreography behind pop videos, tour sets and awards-show performances — a magpie style that lifts from hip-hop, jazz and street and sharpens it for the screen. Our Lancaster class teaches it the way it is built: current tracks, tight counts of eight and clean hits, layered slowly enough that a total beginner keeps up and quickly enough that it still feels like the real thing.
Lancaster carries a young, restless energy well suited to the style — a compact city where the student crowd off the hill mixes with the after-work rush around Market Street and Church Street, and where studios such as The Dance Hub have kept a street-and-commercial pulse going for years. We point to that scene honestly, as neighbours in the same town rather than a partner we are tied to; our class is its own thing, open to anyone who fancies it.
You do not need to have grown up dancing, and you certainly do not need to look like the person in the video. People arrive stiff, spend a few weeks learning to trust the count, and are suddenly running a full routine full-out. £8 a drop-in, wear your comfiest trainers, and expect to leave sweaty and grinning.

Why Choose Commercial in Lancaster?
You Learn Real Routines
This is not vague movement — you walk out with actual choreography to a track you know, the kind you could drop at a party or in a group video.
Counts-First, Beginner-Safe
Everything is broken to slow counts of eight and repeated until it sticks. Complete beginners keep pace because the teaching does the heavy lifting.
A Genuine Workout
Full-out commercial is proper cardio. You get the sweat and the buzz of a class you actually enjoy rather than one you endure.
Easy To Reach In Town
We run from city-centre studios minutes from the station and the Market Street shops, with central car parks close by — simple to slot into a weeknight.
Your Commercial Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Catching The Count
Weeks 1-3
You learn to follow eights, pick up the groove basics and get through a short section without feeling lost. The mirror stops being terrifying.
What changes
You realise nobody expects perfection on the first pass, and the panic of not remembering it fades fast.
Hitting It Clean
Weeks 4-8
The isolations sharpen and your moves start landing on the beat instead of just after it. Choreography that felt like a blur becomes a shape you can see.
What changes
You stop copying the teacher a half-second late and start moving with the music yourself.
Performing It
Months 3-5
You run full routines full-out, front row included, and start adding your own attack and facial energy on top of the steps.
What changes
Technique turns into performance — you are selling the routine, not just surviving it.
Picking It Up Fast
Month 6 onward
New choreography goes in quickly because your body already knows the vocabulary. You can drop into any commercial class and hold your own.
What changes
Learning routines becomes the fun part rather than the hurdle — you crave the next track.
Commercial in Lancaster FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
What exactly is commercial dance? +
It is the sharp, camera-ready style behind music videos, pop tours and awards performances — a blend of hip-hop, jazz and street cleaned up for the screen. In Lancaster we teach it to current tracks as tight, learnable routines rather than freestyle.
Do I need any dance experience? +
No. The class is built for adults starting from scratch as much as for returners. Everything is fed in slow counts of eight and repeated until it sits, so first-timers keep up perfectly well.
What should I wear? +
Comfortable clothes you can sweat and move in — leggings or joggers and a loose top — plus clean trainers with a bit of grip. Bring water; the warm-up alone will get you going.
How much is a class? +
£8 per session, paid on the day as a drop-in. No membership, no block of weeks to buy up front and no contract — you come when it suits and pay only for the classes you dance.
Will I actually learn a routine or just do fitness? +
A real routine. Each block builds choreography to a specific track that you rehearse and run full-out, so you leave with something you could genuinely perform rather than a generic workout.
Where are the classes held? +
In city-centre studios around Market Street and Church Street, with the exact room confirmed on booking. It is a short walk from the railway station and the central car parks, easy on a weeknight.
Is it suitable if I'm not very fit? +
Yes — you set your own intensity. Full-out is optional while you are finding your feet, and most people's fitness climbs naturally over a few weeks without it ever feeling like a bootcamp.
How is this different from a street or hip-hop class? +
There is overlap, but commercial leans toward the polished, front-facing video finish and pop tracks, where street sits closer to the raw hip-hop roots. Try both — plenty of our dancers do.
Can I bring friends or book a group? +
Of course. Come together on any week as drop-ins, or for a private celebration we run a commercial hen party as a one-off session choreographed to a track of your choosing.
