Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
The clap comes first
Palmas — flamenco's clapped rhythms — open every session, installing the cycle before any feet get involved.
Feet find the floor
Heel, toe and full-sole strikes layered patiently — accuracy and ankle health before any pursuit of speed.
Arms on their own time
Braceo enters: arms that circle at their own patient speed while the chest stays lifted — the top half of you on one clock, the feet on another.
Music enters
A short sequence set against flamenco guitar, learning where footwork answers the rhythm and where silence lets it pass.
Danced with conviction
The sequence performed together, imperfect and proud — attitude is a taught component, and this is its practice slot.
About Flamenco Classes in Lincoln
Flamenco is rhythm made visible. Before any dancing happens, there is compás — the rhythmic cycle that everything in the art answers to — and our Lincoln beginners learn it the traditional way: clapped, walked, then stamped, until the pattern stops being counted and starts being felt. Only then do the famous elements arrive: the driving footwork below, the slow proud arms above, each on its own clock.
It is a solo form, and beginners consistently find that liberating. No partner waits on your timing; no frame needs negotiating. The intensity is yours to build, the mistakes yours to stamp straight through — flamenco has always preferred conviction to perfection, and teaches the attitude alongside the technique.
Sessions run in central Lincoln, Lower City side, on a floor that welcomes a heel strike — a detail that matters more in this style than any other. And we are straightforward about the wider scene: live flamenco reaches Lincolnshire as occasional touring visits, so the weekly craft lives here, in the room.

Why Choose Flamenco in Lincoln?
Rhythm, permanently installed
Compás training rewires timing through hands and feet — an education your ear keeps for good.
Nobody to wait for
Solo by design: your intensity, your timing, your credit — daunting for a week, addictive after.
Carriage that stays
The lifted chest and long spine build genuine core strength and a bearing that outlasts the class.
£8, minimal kit
A firm-heeled shoe and willingness — the entire equipment list, at the standard flat price.
Your Flamenco Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
The cycle takes hold
Compás by instinct
The twelve-count stops being arithmetic and becomes a pulse you could clap half-asleep.
Strikes separate
Heel and toe land as distinct, deliberate sounds — quiet feet being the first triumph.
The feet speak
Speed without tension
Combinations quicken while ankles stay soft — the sustainable route to crispness.
Silence as percussion
The held beat that makes the next strike land twice as hard — learned deliberately.
The dancer assembles
Braceo ripens
Wrists, fingers and the slow sweep of the arms hold their line above the arguing feet.
The look arrives
Chin, chest, gaze — flamenco's authority is physical technique, practised like any other.
Inside the form
Real structures
You meet letras and llamadas — the sections and calls a flamenco number is assembled from — and the footwork starts living inside real music.
Your voice in it
Within the strict form, personal force and phrasing emerge. That tension is the entire art.
Flamenco in Lincoln FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I need Spanish, castanets or flamenco dresses? +
None of them. Teaching is in English, castanets belong to a much later chapter, and class dress is simply clothes that move plus a firm shoe.
What shoes work best? +
A firm shoe that can strike a floor with conviction — a low boot or character shoe serves beginners perfectly. Nailed flamenco shoes come later, as a reward.
Is there a flamenco scene in Lincoln? +
Live flamenco arrives as occasional touring shows rather than a weekly fixture, and we say so plainly. The craft itself lives in the class — and travels with you to any tablao you ever visit.
How much does it cost? +
£8 per session, flat, on the night — no blocks, no term fees.
Where is the class? +
Central Lincoln on the Lower City side, in a studio whose floor is chosen to take real footwork. Details confirmed at booking.
Is the stamping hard on knees and ankles? +
Built carelessly it can be, which is why our footwork layers slowly with the strike travelling through the foot, not the joint. Speed is earned, never rushed.
I have no rhythm whatsoever — surely flamenco is the worst choice? +
Then you have found the right room: rhythm here is the subject on the whiteboard, not the entry ticket. Each session builds the cycle into your hands and feet from silence upward.
Am I too old to start flamenco? +
Flamenco famously deepens with age — presence outranks athleticism, and the art has always saved its greatest respect for dancers with some life behind them.
How do I book in? +
The enquiry form — we respond within one working day with the next session's day, time and address.
