Sharpen the Frame
We open by cleaning your shapes up for a lens — isolations, hard angles, a chest that lifts. Anything soft or half-finished disappears the moment a camera turns your way, so the outline is fixed before a single count goes in.
Ride the Song
Then you learn to answer the music — landing on a beat, snapping onto an accent, flinging enough force at every hit to reach the very back of the room. That exchange with the track is what turns marking into performing.
Assemble the Routine
The month's number arrives in blocks and gets rebuilt whole, set to whichever single is inescapable that week. Learn a section, bolt it to the one before, loop it until the seams disappear.
Own Your Spot
Facings, spacing, formation — the exact patch of floor you own, the way you pivot, how a loose group locks into one clean shape. This produced polish is what raises commercial above the street forms it grew from.
Take One for the Lens
A final, no-holds-barred run straight down the camera, performance face fully switched on, caught on one clip so you have honest proof to hold this week up against next.
About Commercial Classes in Belfast
Commercial is the dancing behind the pop single, the festival set and the video stacking up streams — the moves everyone half-knows but rarely names. It is choreography made for a screen first, so selling it to a camera counts every bit as much as the steps underneath.
Belfast is about as camera-soaked as British cities get. HBO made the whole of Game of Thrones here, its throne room and great halls built inside Titanic Studios, and Northern Ireland has run a busy screen industry off the back of it ever since. Add a UNESCO City of Music that raised Van Morrison and Snow Patrol, and the studios fill with people entirely at home in front of a lens.
We gather at partner studios across the city centre and out at the Titanic Quarter, the exact room confirmed when you book. First-timers make up most of the room; the ability to catch choreography at speed is something we develop in you, never a prerequisite. The centre is small and easy to walk, and the Glider runs out to the waterfront, so leave the car behind.

Why Choose Commercial in Belfast?
Built Like the Actual Gig
Routines are assembled exactly as a working choreographer would block a tour or a shoot, and the people teaching them spend their own weeks doing that job. What reaches you is the real trade, shrunk to class size.
Speed You Learn Without Noticing
Snapping up choreography fast is the skill commercial hinges on, so it gets rehearsed on purpose every week until your body starts doing it ahead of your thoughts.
Scattered Room, Single Image
Level facings, even spacing, a front line you could rule a line along — that is what turns a random group into one intentional frame for the camera, and it is the finish that sets commercial apart from the street styles beneath it.
Screens Are the Local Trade
You train in the city that shot Game of Thrones, a UNESCO City of Music where cameras and stages stay busy — so the hunger for a lens and the places to point one are already around you.
Your Commercial Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Cleaning the Lines
Getting Started
Bounce, isolation drills and the sharp, intentional finish the genre lives on. Here it is all about clean shapes and nerve; the matter of speed can hold for a later week.
Kit
Movement-friendly gear and flat trainers with a smooth sole — a tee with joggers is plenty. Anything to do with heels is handled in a separate room.
Making It Land
Foundations
Hits, angles and level drops strung into complete phrases, with the music itself — not a spoken count — deciding where each move goes next.
Your Flavour
Since commercial borrows from jazz, street and hip-hop together, you start to sense whether hitting sharp or flowing smooth suits you better.
Whole Routines
Longer Routines
Numbers grow longer and quicker, transitions get tougher, and you come away with full pieces fit for your feed or a live audience.
The Delivery
The work shifts from remembering steps to truly selling them — light and shade, contrast, and front enough to land at the back of the hall.
Made for the Camera
Perform
Filmed pieces and showcase spots whenever you feel like it, or just the weekly buzz of dancing flat-out for its own sake.
What's Next
Improver routines, classes pitched at audition speed, or a step across into heels in the next studio.
Commercial in Belfast FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
How does commercial differ from street or hip-hop? +
Street and hip-hop come from culture, foundations and freestyle. Commercial lifts all that and finishes it for the camera — unison, clean formations, a routine designed to be watched. A lot of Belfast dancers cheerfully do both in the same week.
Can I start with no experience at all? +
You can, and it is what most of the room is doing. The classes are aimed straight at beginners, with the skill of picking things up quickly coached from minute one, so no one gets abandoned at the back. Glance around any session — nearly everyone started exactly where you are.
Where in Belfast are the commercial classes held? +
Partner studios in the city centre and out at the Titanic Quarter, each confirmed after you book. All sit a short walk or one Glider hop from Grand Central, and with the centre so compact, most people just walk in.
What will a commercial class in Belfast cost? +
£8 to drop in, paid on the night, with no membership and nothing to put your name to. When your nearest studio settles on a weekly time, a block booking lowers the rate.
What tracks will we dance to? +
By and large whatever is topping the charts that month — pop, a touch of R&B or Afrobeats, the song everyone cannot shake. It changes constantly, so you never feel welded to a playlist from a couple of summers back.
What should I wear and bring? +
Anything you can move freely in and trainers with a clean sole — leggings or joggers and a tee do nicely. Skip anything stiff, there is nothing special to buy, and the heel work has its own dedicated class.
Do you film us in class? +
Generally only that final run, saved as a clip so you can watch your own progress. You are always asked first, it is never compulsory, and nothing goes public unless everyone in the room agrees.
Is there anywhere to perform in Belfast? +
Plenty of it. As a genuine screen city — home to Game of Thrones at Titanic Studios and a UNESCO City of Music — Belfast keeps shoots, showcases and projects running all year. Once you feel ready, your teacher will steer you toward one.
Can we book a private or hen group in Belfast? +
Certainly — a filmed, video-style routine is among the group and hen sessions we are asked for most. Put your date and numbers on the form and we will book a central studio or travel out to you across Northern Ireland.
