Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Warm-Up & Posture

Gentle mobility for the spine, hips and shoulders, plus the grounded, lifted posture that lets the isolations actually work.

10–25 mins

Isolations

Drilling the building blocks one at a time — hip drops, slides and chest lifts — moving each part on its own over the beat.

25–40 mins

Layering & Shimmies

Stacking those isolations into shimmies and combinations, adding the arms so the whole body tells the same story.

40–50 mins

Veil or Combination

A short sequence or a first play with the veil, linking the moves into something that flows to the music.

50–60 mins

Flow & Cool-Down

Dance the combination through a couple of times, then a slow, feel-good stretch to finish the hour.

About Belly Dance Classes in Norwich

Belly dance is one of the oldest social dances going, built on isolations — moving hips, ribcage and shoulders independently over a rhythm rather than covering ground. It is low-impact and endlessly adaptable to whatever body you bring, quietly building core strength and posture, which is why it suits beginners of any age or shape.

In Norwich we run it as an instructor-led class rather than tying it to one fixed venue: a warm, welcoming room in the city centre near Chapel Field and the Lanes, or over on the Riverside side, with a come-to-you option for groups. The exact studio is confirmed on booking, and for a hen do we simply bring the class to your space.

Getting in is straightforward — a compact centre a short walk from the station, with Park & Ride and buses covering the wider Norfolk villages. You keep whatever you are comfortable in; the coin-belt and veil are props we can lend, never a dress code, and nothing about the class asks you to perform before you are ready.

Belly Dance in Norwich FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need to be fit or flexible to start belly dance? +

No. Belly dance is low-impact and meets you where you are — it builds core strength and mobility gradually rather than demanding them upfront. Beginners of every fitness level start comfortably.

What will I actually learn in the first few classes? +

The isolations that everything is built on — hip drops, slides, chest lifts and a first shimmy — moving one part of the body at a time over the rhythm before you ever layer them together.

Where in Norwich do the belly dance classes run? +

In a warm, welcoming room in the city centre near Chapel Field and the Lanes, or over on the Riverside side, with the exact studio confirmed on booking. Come-to-you sessions cover the wider county.

What should I wear — do I have to show my midriff? +

Never. Leggings and a fitted top are perfect, and a bare midriff is entirely optional. Coin-belts and veils are props we can lend, never a dress code — wear whatever you feel good in.

How much is a belly dance class in Norwich? +

A flat £8 per drop-in class, with no membership and nothing you are tied into. Just come along to the sessions that suit you.

Is belly dance suitable for my age or body shape? +

Yes — it is one of the most adaptable dances there is, and it genuinely suits every age and every body. The moves work with whatever shape you bring rather than against it.

Is it a women-only class? +

The regular class is a warm, women-friendly space, which is how most people prefer it. For mixed groups, hen dos or private bookings we're flexible — just tell us what you'd like when you get in touch.

Do I ever have to perform? +

Only if you want to. There is no pressure to perform or be watched; plenty of people come purely for the movement and the fun of it, and that is completely fine.

Can you bring belly dance to a hen do or party in Norwich? +

Yes — a come-to-you belly dance class is a favourite for hen dos and celebrations. We bring everything, including veils to borrow, to your venue anywhere across Norwich and Norfolk.
