Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Loosen the Swagger
We warm up with rolls, struts and slow, weighted walks that set the tone. It feels faintly ridiculous for five minutes and completely natural by ten - and that thaw is exactly the point.
The Signature Moves
Shimmies, hip bumps, sways and the classic cabaret vocabulary, broken right down. Playful, unhurried, and with the pressure firmly off.
Props & Poise
How to handle a boa, a fan or a chair so it looks deliberate rather than dropped - and how a slow turn or a held look does more than any fast move.
Build the Routine
The moves link into a short number with a beginning, a wink and an ending. You learn to perform a character, not just execute steps in order.
For Us Only
We run it through as a group, in character, for nobody but each other. No stage, no audience - just the buzz of having genuinely gone for it.
About Burlesque Classes in Bath
Burlesque is cabaret as a craft - theatrical, funny, gloriously self-possessed dance built on character, timing and a wink to the audience. Forget the myth that it is all about undressing; in this class nothing comes off. What you are really learning is how to hold a room with nothing but posture and cheek.
Bath has a quiet cabaret streak if you know where to look - the independent bars along Walcot Street and the George Street strip have long hosted the odd sequinned late-night turn. And two centuries before that, the Georgian Assembly Rooms were where Bath came to perform its social self; we take that spirit as inspiration, not a booking.
Across a term you build a short routine - feather-fan poses, a boa, a chair, a chasse of chin-up swagger - and pick up the classic vocabulary of the shimmy, the bump and the sway. It stays PG throughout, it is open to women and non-binary dancers, and it asks for nothing but comfortable clothes and shoes you can pivot in.

Why Choose Burlesque in Bath?
Confidence With a Capital C
Burlesque teaches you to hold a room with posture and timing alone. That self-possession is the thing people take home and keep.
Play a Character
For one hour you get to be bolder, funnier and more theatrical than the day usually allows - a proper release that has nothing to do with your inbox.
Every Body Celebrated
Burlesque has always championed bodies of every shape, age and size. There is no ideal look here, only the confidence you decide to bring.
A Skill, Not a Strip
You leave with a real routine and a toolkit of poise, timing and stagecraft - kept firmly PG, and entirely yours to keep.
Your Burlesque Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Getting Comfortable
First Few Weeks
You find your feet with the basic walks, poses and attitude, in a curtained room designed to feel unwatched. Silliness is encouraged; judgement is not.
What to Wear
Comfortable clothes you can move in and a shoe you can pivot in - a low heel or trainers, whatever suits you. A boa is provided; personality is not optional.
Learning the Craft
The Vocabulary
Shimmies, bumps, sways and prop work with a fan or boa, plus the slow, deliberate timing that gives burlesque its cheek.
Finding Your Character
You start to shape a stage persona - the walk, the look, the attitude - that makes the moves yours rather than borrowed.
Putting on a Show
A Full Routine
The moves join into a short, structured number with a proper arc - an entrance, a build and a knockout final pose.
Performing It
You run the routine in character for the group, learning to play to a friendly audience without a scrap of real pressure.
Owning the Stage
Your Own Act
Confident enough to bring your own flavour and cheek to set choreography, and to carry that presence well beyond the studio.
Where Next
Keep coming for the confidence, gather a group for a hen do, or branch into heels - the swagger transfers wherever you take it.
Burlesque in Bath FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Does anything actually come off? +
No. This is choreography and character work, kept firmly PG throughout - the tease lives in a raised brow and a slow turn, never in anything being removed. You stay fully clothed the entire class.
I have never danced - will I struggle? +
Not a bit. Burlesque leans far more on attitude than technique, so a complete beginner is perfectly placed. Every move is broken down and the whole session stays warm, giggly and low-pressure.
Is the class only for women? +
No - it is open to women and non-binary dancers of every age, shape and background. Burlesque celebrates all bodies, and confidence is the single thing anyone is asked to bring.
Will I ever have to perform in public? +
Never. The routine is yours to keep and the only audience is the friendly one already in the room. Many dancers come purely for the confidence and never go near a stage.
What do I wear and do I need heels? +
Comfortable clothes you can move freely in and shoes you can turn in - a low heel or trainers both work fine. No heels required, and a feather boa is provided.
Is it a good boost even if I am shy? +
Especially then. The curtained room, the character work and the pressure-free pace are built for exactly that. Quiet, nervous first-timers are the ones who tend to surprise themselves most.
Can we book it for a hen party? +
Gladly - burlesque is a hen-do favourite. Give us a date, rough numbers and a Bath-area spot and we will arrange a private group class; the weekly drop-in stays a flat eight pounds if you would rather just come along.
How much is a class and how do I pay? +
Eight pounds flat, handed over on the night, with no membership and nothing to cancel. It is the same price as every Dance Centre UK class in Bath.
Where is it, and how do I get there? +
A private central studio a short walk from Walcot and George Street; the exact address comes on booking. Bath Spa station is close for the train, and the park-and-rides beat hunting the cobbled centre for a space.
