Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0-10 min

Feet, Then Heels

We warm up flat first, waking the ankles, calves and core that carry you once the heels go on. A few lengths of the room in shoes follow, so the body files what balance actually feels like before any dancing starts.

10-22 min

The Walk and the Pose

Everything hangs off the walk - long spine, weight forward, hips unhurried - and the poses that punctuate it. We drill the strut until it reads as certainty, because in heels the attitude is the technique.

22-36 min

Sass in Sequence

Hair flicks, body rolls, floor-to-standing recoveries and sharp directional turns get strung together. Each move is taught with the safe mechanics of doing it in a stiletto, not a trainer, so nothing catches you out.

36-48 min

Build the Number

The pieces join into a short routine with a clear front and plenty of face. You practise projecting past the mirror to an imagined back row, holding eye line and letting the confidence carry the choreography.

48-60 min

Strut It Out

We run the routine full out, heels on and heads high, then peel the shoes off for a proper calf and hip stretch. You leave a little taller and walking like the pavement owes you rent.

About Heels Classes in Cheltenham

Heels is where technique meets pure attitude - choreography built for a raised heel that turns posture, sass and a confident walk into the whole point. It borrows the polish of commercial and jazz but hangs it on line and swagger, and it has become one of the most empowering rooms in adult dance for exactly that reason.

Cheltenham suits the strut. The long Regency sweep of the Promenade is practically a catwalk, Montpellier's ironwork balconies and caryatids set a glamorous, dressed-up tone, and the town's festival and race-week crowds keep it used to occasions worth stepping out for. A heels class channels that same put-together confidence into something you can feel in your own spine.

To keep it honest, this is an instructor-led weekly drop-in rather than an audition-track squad - the wider local scene runs through studios like Danceworks and teachers such as Coady, mentioned only for context. Beginners are genuinely welcome and you never have to wear the tallest thing in the shop; a chunky block heel is the sensible start, and plenty warm up in trainers. We send the central studio address once you have booked.

Why Choose Heels in Cheltenham?

Confidence You Wear Out

The poise you build on a heel does not stay in the studio - it turns up in how you walk into a party, a meeting or a room that was not expecting you.

Genuinely Better Balance

Dancing in heels forges real ankle strength, core control and body awareness, so everyday walking in them stops being a wobble and starts being a statement.

Sass Without Judgement

This is a supportive, all-levels room built to feel bold in. Nobody is watching to critique; everyone is too busy enjoying the freedom to strut.

A Routine to Show Off

You come away with sharp, sultry choreography you can pull out on a night out, at a hen do or simply for the joy of feeling like the main character.

Your Heels Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Finding Your Feet

First Sessions

You start with posture, the walk and safe weight placement, much of it flat before the heels ever go on. Getting balance and alignment right early is what makes everything later feel powerful instead of precarious.

Shoes and Kit

A chunky block heel you can stand in comfortably, leggings or shorts and a fitted top. Trainers are absolutely fine to begin with, and knee pads earn their keep once floor work arrives.

02

Strut and Sass

The Signature Moves

Hair flicks, body rolls, hip work and clean directional turns come in one at a time, each taught with the mechanics of doing it safely on a raised heel rather than a flat foot.

Selling the Attitude

You learn to project past the glass to an imagined audience, holding an eye line and letting confidence, not force, drive the movement across the floor.

03

Choreography With Bite

Longer Routines

Sequences grow into full numbers that fold in floor-to-standing recoveries, level changes and sharper transitions, stretching both stamina and control in your ankles and core.

Owning the Front

You work the facings and spacing that make a routine read from the audience side, turning correct steps into a performance with real presence.

04

Total Command

A Number That Lands

You dance complete routines full out with polish and poise, heels on and head high, ready for a stage, a social or purely your own satisfaction.

Where Next

Add a commercial class for extra performance edge, take burlesque for slow-burn tease, or book a heels party number for a one-off group blast of the same swagger.

Heels in Cheltenham FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need to be able to walk well in heels first? +

Not at all - teaching you that is half the class. We start flat, build the ankle strength and posture that make heels feel stable, then add them gradually. Most people are amazed how quickly the wobble turns into a walk.

How high should my heels be? +

Start low and chunky. A block heel you can genuinely balance in beats a spindly stiletto every time when you are learning, and plenty of the room warms up in trainers. You can build the height as your confidence and control grow.

Is this only for experienced dancers? +

No. Heels welcomes complete beginners every week and breaks each move down carefully. The style leans on attitude and posture as much as technique, so you can feel the payoff early even without a dance background.

Will my feet and ankles hurt? +

There is some new effort at first, which is exactly why we warm up flat and build strength in stages. Bring gripped socks or knee pads for floor work, take heels off during breaks, and it settles fast within a few weeks.

What is the cost of a class in Cheltenham? +

A flat eight pounds on the night, with no membership and nothing to book in a block. Miss a week and there is no penalty - that same price runs across every Dance Centre UK class in the town.

Whereabouts do the classes take place? +

A central studio a short walk from the Promenade and Montpellier, with mirrors and a floor kind to heels. We email you the precise address the moment your place is confirmed, so you are never left guessing.

How do I get there without a hassle? +

Central car parks like Regent Arcade are minutes away, though check closing times for an evening class. Cheltenham Spa station is roughly a mile west - an easy twenty-minute walk, or a quick bus or taxi into the centre.

Does race week affect getting to class? +

It can. Gold Cup week in March and the town's festival weeks pull big crowds, so parking tightens and taxis get booked up - if your session falls then, give yourself extra time and sort the journey ahead.

Can we do a heels class for a hen or birthday? +

Definitely. Alongside the weekly drop-in we run private themed sessions, come-to-you across Cheltenham and Gloucestershire, tailored to your group's level. Ask about a heels party and we will choreograph a number to suit the crew.
