Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Warm-up & Posture
We warm the ankles, calves and core and set the tall, grounded posture that everything in heels is built on, so you feel steady before you move.
Walks & Weight
You drill the confident heel walk and learn to place weight safely on the ball of the foot — the single most important skill for dancing securely in a heel.
The Combo
A commercial, jazz-funk routine is taught in small chunks to a current track, each section slowed right down and repeated until it feels natural.
Lines & Attitude
We add the sensual, powerful styling — long lines, level changes and the performance attitude that gives heels its signature edge.
Full Run
We put the routine together and run it as a group, dancing it full-out so you leave with a complete piece and a real hit of confidence.
About Heels Classes in York
Heels dance classes in York take commercial and jazz-funk choreography and dance it in a heel — all long, powerful lines, sharp attitude and a slow-burn confidence that tends to follow people straight out of the studio. It is sensual and strong rather than showy, and the point is not the shoe itself but the poise, posture and self-assurance that dancing in one draws out of you.
We put confidence and safe technique first, always. Before any choreography, we drill posture, weight placement and how to move securely on the ball of the foot, because a heels class should build you up, not wobble you out. You are welcome to start in a low block heel or even trainers and work up at your own pace — York's famous cobbles are the only thing in this city with any right to trip you, and they stay firmly outside the studio door.
No experience and no partner are needed. Routines are built from commercial and jazz-funk to current tracks, taught in small chunks and finished with the performance attitude that makes heels so addictive. Classes run across York — near the Minster and Coppergate or over on the Clifton side, venue confirmed on booking — with come-to-you sessions across the Vale of York, ideal for a hen do or a girls' night warm-up. Each class is a flat £8 on the night.

Powerful, sensual style
Long lines, sharp attitude and commercial jazz-funk make heels one of the most expressive and empowering styles to dance.
Around York
Sessions sit centrally near the Minster and Coppergate or on the Clifton side, with come-to-you classes across the Vale of York.
Your Heels Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Weeks 1–2 — Finding Your Feet
Standing tall
The first sessions are all about posture and balance — getting comfortable and grounded in the heel before any real choreography starts.
The confident walk
You learn the heel walk, which sounds simple but unlocks everything else and is where the confidence first begins to click.
Weeks 3–6 — Into Routines
Building combinations
Short sequences come together, taught in repeatable chunks so you can link moves smoothly while staying secure on the ball of the foot.
Adding styling
We start layering in the long lines and hand styling that give heels its unmistakable, powerful look.
Months 2–3 — Performance
Levels and drama
Choreography gains floorwork, level changes and dramatic transitions that make a heels routine feel like a proper performance.
Owning the room
We work the attitude and eye-line so you command the space rather than just dance the steps.
Ongoing — Full Power
Dancing higher
As balance and strength grow, you can dance in a higher heel and full-out, with cleaner, sharper lines.
Your signature
You bring your own flavour to the styling, which is where heels stops being a routine and starts being a statement.
Heels in York FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I need to be able to dance in heels already? +
Not at all. Our York heels classes teach the technique from the very first step — posture, balance and safe weight placement come before any choreography, so complete beginners are exactly who these classes are for.
What heels should I bring? +
Start with whatever feels secure — a low block heel is ideal, and you are very welcome to begin in trainers and work up. A chunkier heel is safer and steadier than a stiletto while you are learning.
Do I need a partner? +
No. Heels is danced solo within a group, so you can book on your own with no need to bring anyone. Come alone, with friends or as a group — all are equally welcome.
What is a heels class actually like? +
It blends commercial and jazz-funk choreography danced in a heel, with a big focus on confidence, powerful lines and attitude. It is sensual and strong, welcoming and supportive — never intimidating.
What should I wear? +
Fitted clothes you can move in — leggings and a comfortable top work well — plus your heels or trainers. Bring water, as the class is more of a workout than people expect.
How much does it cost? +
Every class is a flat £8 paid on the night — no membership, block booking or contract. Just come to the sessions that suit you.
Is it suitable for a hen party or girls' night? +
Absolutely — heels is one of our most popular group choices, and we run come-to-you sessions across York and the Vale of York that make a brilliant hen-do or girls'-night warm-up before heading into the centre.
Whereabouts in York are the classes? +
Sessions run centrally near the Minster and Coppergate or on the Clifton side, with the exact studio confirmed when you book. We also bring come-to-you classes to venues across York and the Vale of York.
Will it help my confidence? +
That is honestly the biggest thing people take away. Learning to move with poise and power in a heel builds a self-assurance that tends to carry well beyond the studio.
