The eleven of us picked 'Dancing Queen', learned the whole thing in a bright little studio near Stonegate, and were still throwing shapes as we walked down to dinner on Walmgate. Our teacher was brilliant and completely incapable of keeping a straight face. Worth every penny.
Immy Calvert Maid of honour, YorkDance Classes & Hen Parties in York
Twenty styles of weekly classes, 38+ themed hen parties and wedding first dances — led by working dancers right across York and the Vale of York, from the Bar Walls and the Shambles out to Acomb, Clifton, Fulford and Heworth.
You Choose the Theme, We Build the Routine.
A hen party dance class in York opens with a theme chosen for the bride — Beyoncé, ABBA or Wicked, whichever fits, from a list of 38-plus — and closes with the whole group performing a number none of them had seen before lunchtime.
A single professional choreographer breaks every step down in a private city-centre studio a short stroll from the Minster, or packs the speaker into the car and heads out to your hotel or holiday let anywhere across York and the Vale of York. One flat rate covers the whole group.
An afternoon on the studio floor, Micklegate and Fossgate by night, and the same routine dusted off at the wedding half a year on — that is how a York hen do ought to run.
One Flat Fee. Skip the Per-Head Maths.
Plenty of York hen-party outfits still charge by the head, so the total lurches about every time the guest list changes. We quote one fixed sum for the whole group at the very start — no matter how many of you finally roll out of the guest house.

Choose your theme
Run through the 38-plus themes and pick the one that suits the bride. Torn between a couple? Your choreographer will happily fuse them into a single routine.
-
In a studio, or wherever you're based
A private studio in the centre with the night out already on the doorstep, or the choreographer drives to whatever base you have taken anywhere across York and the Vale of York.
-
Everyone learns it together
Every step taught in small, repeatable chunks made for outright beginners — no auditions, no judgement, nobody left standing at the edge of the room.
-
Perform it, then perform it again
That final filmed run-through lands in the group chat before you have left the room, and plenty of these numbers get an encore at the wedding itself.
Dance Classes in York
Twenty styles of weekly classes at city-centre studios, from £8 a session — taught by working professionals who genuinely live and gig around the district. Evening slots suit anyone coming off a shift, and the children's classes run out through Acomb, Holgate, Clifton and Heworth. This is the city that gave the world the KitKat and made a stage of Roman Eboracum — the same instinct for doing a thing properly turns up in the studio.
Street Dance
Locking, popping, breaking and house from dancers who gig the real scene — comfortably our fullest class, with children's sessions stretching from Acomb over to Heworth.
Salsa
Cuban timing, a partner swap every few minutes, and the quickest way into whatever Latin nights are running around York.
Ballet
Real barre and centre work in adult classes built squarely for first-timers — and no, you do not need a leotard.
K-Pop
Point choreography and tight formations lifted straight from the videos — the fastest-growing class on the York timetable.
Ballroom
Waltz, foxtrot and quickstep with a proper hold — come as a couple or on your own, since the room rotates all the way through.
Contemporary
Release work, floorwork and improvisation — sitting alongside jazz, tap, heels, flamenco, bollywood and the rest. Twenty styles in all; the classes page sets out every one.
Wedding Dance Lessons in York
Your first dance is the most photographed ninety seconds of the whole reception — worth far more than a nervous sway on the spot. Our choreographers build a private routine around your chosen song, pitched anywhere from understated to full showstopper, at a York studio or at your own venue.
Most couples take four to six sessions across the months before the day; the two-hour Last Minute intensive has hauled more than one fortnight-to-go panic back from the brink. Packages from £75, with song editing and filmed rehearsals folded in the further up you go.

Questions, Answered
What York couples and hen organisers ask before booking — venues, pricing, experience and lead times. Anything else, the enquiry forms reach us within one working day.
Where in York do the classes and hen parties run?
Private studios sit inside the Bar Walls in the heart of the city, a couple of minutes from the Minster and the Shambles — with children's classes running out through Acomb, Holgate, Clifton and Heworth. For a hen party or any private session, the choreographer also travels to your hotel, holiday let or hired hall right across York and the Vale of York.
How does the flat-rate hen party pricing work?
One set fee covers everyone: £140 and the room gets you an hour, £165 and the room gets you ninety minutes, and it holds firm whether six of you make it or twenty-six. Nobody counts heads, and the total never climbs when the guest list wobbles.
How much are the weekly dance classes?
Eight pounds a class, however you book it — a one-off drop-in or a block of four weeks, right across all twenty styles. There is no membership and no contract, so you can try street dance one week and ballroom the next.
Do I need any dance experience?
Not at all — every style runs a proper beginners' tier, and the hen routines take for granted a room where half the group swears they have two left feet. Our teachers make their living performing and are genuinely good at getting first-timers moving quickly.
Who teaches for Dance Centre UK in York?
Working dancers and choreographers who live and gig around York — people whose weeks are made up of shows, shoots and stage work, with teaching slotted in between. Children's classes are taught by DBS-checked professionals.
How far ahead should we book?
Weekly classes can usually be joined the same week. Hen parties want three to five months' notice for a summer Saturday — York weekends, race days at the Knavesmire especially, fill up fast — and wedding couples should start lessons two to three months out.
What Our Dancers Say
Hen parties, first dances and weekly regulars from every corner of York and the Vale of York.
Salsa was only ever meant to be a one-off to fill a Thursday. Six weeks later I have picked up a whole new circle of friends and can properly lead a turn. Everybody swaps partners as the class goes on, so you end up knowing half the room, and half the room turns out to be brilliant company.
Nathan Ryecroft Weekly student, YorkWe booked six lessons and walked in certain we would be the couple who just rocked side to side. We walked out with a routine that earned a proper cheer from the tables. That last run-through on the real floor at our Bishopthorpe venue quietly settled every nerve we had.
