Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Ankles & Alignment Warm-Up

Calf raises, ankle circles and core activation — the unglamorous ten minutes that make everything after it safe, stable and considerably more glamorous.

10–25 mins

Walks & Weight Work

Heel walks, weight placement and balance drills, in trainers or heels depending on where you are. Learning to stack your posture over the shoe is the whole secret.

25–40 mins

The Routine

A fierce commercial-pop choreography — floor accents, hair, hips and attitude — built in sections so it lands whatever footwear you chose today.

40–50 mins

Styling & Attitude

Hands, eyeline and facial performance: the layer that turns steps into a statement. Confidence is choreographed here until it becomes real.

50–60 mins

Runway & Cool-Down

The walk-down: everyone takes the length of the room to their own applause, then ankles and calves get a thorough, well-earned stretch.

About Heels Classes in Birmingham

Heels is commercial choreography with the volume turned up — the strut, hair and attitude of pop's biggest stages, danced in (eventually) a pair of heels. Our heels dance classes in Birmingham teach it as real technique: alignment, ankle strength and weight placement first, fierceness layered on top. Start in trainers; genuinely, most people do.

Classes run at partner studios on the Southside and towards Digbeth — addresses confirmed at booking — which puts the after-class options exactly where you want them: the Arcadian's bars one way, Digbeth's warehouse spots the other, Broad Street a strut away. The Saturday-night confidence this class builds gets immediate local use.

New Street and the trams handle the journey in — with the Clean Air Zone, driving in older cars costs extra, and nobody wants to parallel park in heels anyway. All levels, all genders, ages 17 to 75. Bring trainers, bring water, bring nerve; the rest is teachable.

Why Choose Heels in Birmingham?

Trainers Fine to Start

Every routine works flat first. You learn the technique in trainers and graduate into heels when your ankles — not your nerves — say so.

Technique Keeps You Safe

Alignment, ankle conditioning and weight placement are taught before anything fierce. Strong foundations are what make the style sustainable.

Confidence, Weaponised

The walk you drill in class does not stay in class. Regulars report a different posture at work, on nights out and in photographs.

Built for a Night Out

Southside studios put the Arcadian, the Chinese Quarter and Broad Street minutes away — heels class and a night out were made for each other.

Your Heels Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Find Your Feet

Getting Started

Walks, posture and your first routine — in trainers, entirely without judgement. The attitude arrives before the footwear does.

What to Wear

Trainers, leggings or joggers, and knee pads if you have them for floor accents. Heels stay optional for weeks yet.

Month 2–3

Into the Heels

First Heel Work

A sturdy block heel with an ankle strap, basic walks and balances — ankles now conditioned enough to enjoy it rather than survive it.

Floor Confidence

Floor accents, level changes and getting up gracefully — the moves that look hardest and become favourites fastest.

Month 4–6

Full Fierce

Performance Layer

Hair, hands, eyeline and musical delay — styling choices that make the same choreography unmistakably yours.

Stamina

Full routines top to bottom in heels, with the control to finish as strong as you started.

Month 6+

Runway Ready

Advanced Choreography

Faster material, sharper floor work and combinations drawn from current tour and video choreography.

What Comes Next

Filmed class concepts, optional showcases, or simply owning every room you walk into — which was the point all along.

Heels in Birmingham FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where in Birmingham do the heels classes run? +

At partner studios on the Southside — around the Hurst Street theatre area — and towards Digbeth, with the exact venue confirmed when you book. It is a short walk from New Street, and conveniently central for wherever the evening goes afterwards.

What do heels classes in Birmingham cost? +

£8 per drop-in session — no joining fees, no contracts, no pressure to commit before you have tried it. Discounted blocks arrive once your studio's regular slot is confirmed.

Do I actually need heels for my first class? +

No — trainers are absolutely fine to start, and we would rather you began in them. All choreography works flat, and you move into heels only once your ankles are conditioned and you fancy it. Some regulars stay in trainers for months.

What kind of heels should I eventually buy? +

A sturdy block heel with an ankle strap, two to three inches, is the classic starter — stability beats height every time. Save the stilettos and boots for later; your teacher will tell you when your balance is ready for them.

I have never danced before — is heels too advanced to start with? +

Not at all. Because everyone starts in trainers, heels class is secretly one of the friendliest entry points into commercial dance. The technique is layered week by week and beginners are the room's majority, not its mascots.

Is dancing in heels safe for my ankles and knees? +

Taught properly, yes. Every class opens with ankle and calf conditioning, technique work covers weight placement before speed, and nobody is moved into heels early. Mention any old injuries and the choreography adapts around them.

Are men welcome at heels classes? +

Very much so — heels is one of the most inclusive rooms in dance, and some of the style's most influential choreographers are men. Everyone learns the same routines and everyone gets the same runway.

What music do heels routines use? +

Big pop and R&B — the divas, current chart heat and the occasional throwback that makes the whole room scream. If it makes you feel ten feet tall, it qualifies.

Can we book a heels class for a hen party in Birmingham? +

Yes — a private heels session is a hen-do favourite, at your venue or a partner studio, from £140 flat for the whole group. An afternoon routine followed by Broad Street or the Arcadian is a very well-trodden Birmingham plan.
