Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Warm-Up to a Film Track

We get the whole room moving to a Bollywood number straight away — the fastest way to loosen up and shake off any self-consciousness before the real work starts.

10–25 mins

Hands & Expression

The storytelling gestures and facial expression that give Bollywood its drama, drawn from classical Indian dance and taught piece by piece.

25–40 mins

Footwork & Drive

The punchy, folk-rooted footwork and bounce that power a Bollywood routine, built up in short blocks so the energy never outruns the technique.

40–50 mins

Learn the Routine

We choreograph a section to a current film hit, stacking the gestures and footwork into a proper sequence with all the colour and none of the pressure.

50–60 mins

Run It Full-Out

The whole routine danced through together at full brightness, then a cool-down. This is the joyful, slightly breathless finish the class is built around.

About Bollywood Classes in Nottingham

Bollywood dance is a bright collision of styles — the storytelling hand gestures of classical Indian dance, the punch of folk, and a good shot of pop and street — all pitched at the scale of the films it comes from. Our Nottingham classes set real routines to the movie songs topping the charts right now, keeping the drama and the story while slipping in a proper workout.

Nottingham brings its own colour to it. The mixed, multicultural streets of Hyson Green and Radford, north-west of the centre, have long been home to South Asian, African-Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Eastern European communities, with a pioneering arts history — local organisations such as APNA and EMACA that shaped the old Hyson Green scene. Add two big universities keeping the city young, and a Bollywood number feels right at home here.

Plenty of groups come to us with a wedding sangeet approaching, and we will rehearse wherever the family gathers — right across Nottingham and out through Beeston, West Bridgford and the county. Beyond weddings the door is open to absolutely anyone: no dance background required, no need to know a single film, and the bigger the group in the room, the more fun the whole thing becomes.

Why Choose Bollywood in Nottingham?

Routines to Current Hits

We choreograph to the Bollywood songs riding high right now, so you learn dances that feel fresh off the screen rather than dusted off from a decade ago.

Expression & Storytelling

The hand gestures and facial expression are half the fun. You learn to tell a story with the movement, which is what makes Bollywood so joyful to dance.

A Young, Mixed City

Nottingham's diverse Hyson Green and Radford communities and its two big universities keep this energy thoroughly at home — a Bollywood class here needs no excuse.

Wedding Sangeets

Got a sangeet coming up? We choreograph and rehearse group routines wherever the family gathers, across Nottingham and the wider county — chaos-free and camera-ready.

Your Bollywood Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Week 1–4

Into the Colour

Getting Started

Your first gestures, the basic bounce and a short routine to a film track. The aim is energy and enjoyment far more than precision.

What to Wear

Comfortable clothes you can move and sweat in, and trainers with a bit of grip. Bring water — a Bollywood class moves at a fair pace.

Month 2–3

Building the Style

Gesture & Footwork

Cleaner hand gestures and more confident footwork, learning how the classical expression and the folk drive fit together.

Fuller Routines

Longer choreographed sections to current songs, where the separate pieces start to feel like a real Bollywood number.

Month 4–6

Performing It

Expression & Energy

Bringing the face, the drama and the projection that make Bollywood read from across a room, not just look correct up close.

Formations

Dancing in sync with a group and moving through simple formations — the film-set look that makes these routines so satisfying together.

Month 6+

Full Flight

Showpiece Routines

Complete, high-energy numbers you can genuinely perform — at a sangeet, a showcase or just for the joy of nailing them.

Where Next

A wedding routine of your own, a move into a related South Asian or street style, or simply staying for the sheer fun of it.

Bollywood in Nottingham FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Can I join with no dance experience at all? +

Yes — most of the room usually is a beginner. Every routine is broken down slowly, step by step, so no previous training is assumed. Bollywood's energy carries you along, and you will be dancing a section by the end of your first class.

Is the class only for South Asian dancers, or only for women? +

Neither. The class is open to everyone, of every background and gender. Nottingham's Bollywood energy comes out of genuinely mixed communities like Hyson Green and Radford, and our room reflects that — all are welcome and no experience of the culture is needed.

Do I need to know Bollywood films to take part? +

Not at all. Knowing the movies is a nice bonus but never a requirement — we teach the routine, the gestures and the songs from scratch. Plenty of dancers arrive having never seen a Bollywood film and leave hooked on the music.

Are we learning classical, folk or film-style dance? +

Film style — the joyful Bollywood mix. It borrows the expressive hand gestures from classical Indian dance and the drive from folk, then blends in pop and street the way the movies do. You get the best of all of them in one routine.

Where in Nottingham do the Bollywood classes run? +

At partner studios around the city centre and out towards the diverse Hyson Green and Radford neighbourhoods, all easy to reach by tram or a short walk from Nottingham station. The exact venue is confirmed when you book.

Can you choreograph our wedding sangeet? +

Absolutely — it is one of our most-requested bookings. We build a group routine to your chosen songs and come to you to rehearse it, right across Nottingham and the county, so the whole family can be camera-ready for the big night.

What should I wear and bring? +

Comfortable clothes you can move freely in, trainers with some grip, and a bottle of water — the pace is lively. There is no costume to buy; bright colours are welcome but never required, and you can dress up as much or as little as you like.

How much does a Bollywood class in Nottingham cost? +

Drop-in classes are £8 a session, with no membership and no contract. Once your nearest studio has a regular weekly timetable, discounted block bookings come in for anyone who wants to keep dancing every week.

What songs will we dance to? +

Current Bollywood chart hits, mostly — the film songs everyone is playing right now — with the odd well-loved classic thrown in. We keep the playlist fresh, so the routines always feel like they have come straight off the screen.
