Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 mins

Warm In on a Whole Track

We loosen off to a full record rather than a silent count, letting the pulse work down through the shoulders, ribs and knees before any move gets named.

10–25 mins

Drill the Bounce

The weighted rock that everything else sits on top of gets built and looped first, because until it runs without you thinking, the flashier stuff never quite lands.

25–40 mins

One Party Dance, Traced Back

We take a single recognisable social step, say where it came from and who danced it, then break it down slowly enough that it sticks rather than blurs.

40–50 mins

Chain It Into Eights

Two or three of the pieces from earlier get linked into a short phrase you can actually keep, with the count called out loud until nobody needs it.

50–60 mins

Loose Circle, Then Stretch

Anyone who fancies a go in the middle gets a friendly cypher to try it in — sitting it out is completely fine — and we cool the legs down before you head off.

About Hip-Hop Classes in Blackpool

Blackpool has a deeper street root than a seaside resort tends to get credit for. House of Wingz has run youth-arts and breaking sessions in the town since 2006, kept its Skool of Street programme going, and sent local dancers up to Breakin' Convention showcases at the Grand — so when we put on hip-hop classes in Blackpool, we mean one honest lane of a scene that already stands on its own, not a claim to be the only floor going. We reference that scene with respect; we are an independent class and not partnered with any of the schools named here.

It pays to be straight about what the word hip-hop actually covers, because it gets stretched across four different things. Breaking is the floor-based, drop-and-spin side — that ground is genuinely well held locally, and we will happily point you toward the specialists for it. House is the fast, travelling club footwork; commercial is the glossy music-video finish you see behind pop acts. Our hour lives in the middle of all that: the upright bounce, the social party dances that came out of block parties and clubs, and short choreography stitched on top once the groove is in your body.

The class runs off the Blackpool North side of the town centre, a few minutes down the Promenade tramway from most of the seafront hotels, so an evening slot works whether you are travelling in from Bispham, North Shore or the South Shore end. Wear whatever you can move freely in and bring cushioned trainers — there is no kit to buy your way into. It is £8 handed over on the day, no term to sign up to and no card kept on file, so you dance the weeks that fit around everything else.

Why Choose Hip-Hop in Blackpool?

The Full Hour on One Lane

No trying to cram breaking, popping, house and locking into sixty minutes. This class hands the whole hour to hip-hop's own core, so the groove actually beds in.

Straight About the Local Scene

Blackpool already has real street credibility through House of Wingz and the wider Fylde scene, and we say so — we add a steady adult groove class, we do not pretend to replace anyone.

Groove Before Routine

Every social dance gets pulled apart, named and rebuilt before it ever reaches choreography, so it lives in your body instead of being copied off a screen and forgotten by Friday.

Under-18s Kept Separate

Kids and teenagers dance in their own age-grouped sessions with DBS-checked teachers, run apart from the adult class rather than folded into it.

Your Hip-Hop Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

Weeks 1–4

Landing the Bounce

In the room

The first month is almost all groove — bounce, weight and timing drilled until your body stops fighting the beat and starts leaning into it.

By the end

You can hold a steady bounce through a full track and have two or three party steps you can drop without a countdown.

Month 2

Adding Vocabulary

In the room

We widen the shelf of moves — a few more social dances, some direction changes, and the first proper short phrase pieced together.

By the end

You are reading the teacher on the fly and picking up a new eight without needing every count spelled out.

Months 3–5

Riding a Whole Track

In the room

Longer sequences, cleaner transitions and the start of your own texture — where you sit on the beat, how hard you hit, when you lay back.

By the end

A full routine to a track you know, danced like you mean it rather than survived.

Month 6+

Your Own Flavour

In the room

Freestyle games and cyphers get more room, and the choreography leaves gaps for you to fill your own way.

By the end

You move like yourself inside the style — not a copy of the teacher, which is the whole point.

Hip-Hop in Blackpool FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Whereabouts in Blackpool do the hip-hop classes run? +

A studio on the town-centre side near Blackpool North station, so the mainline train and the Promenade tramway both drop you close. It is an easy hop from most seafront hotels and only a short ride from the South Shore end.

What does a hip-hop class in Blackpool cost? +

£8, paid as you come in. There is no joining fee, no block to buy up front and no term you are locked into — you are only ever covering the single session in front of you, on whichever weeks you can make.

How is this different from a general street-dance class? +

A street class usually rotates through locking, popping, breaking and house inside the hour. This one gives all sixty minutes to hip-hop's own centre — the groove, the social party dances and the choreography built from them — so one thing goes in deep rather than four going in shallow.

Isn't the street scene already covered by House of Wingz? +

For breaking and youth street-arts, genuinely yes, and we say so openly — House of Wingz has held that ground in Blackpool since 2006. What we add is a steady, welcoming adult groove class for people who want the party-dance side without committing to the floor work.

I honestly have no rhythm — will I be lost? +

Rhythm is built, not handed out at birth, and the bounce foundations are the exact tool that builds it. Most people in a beginners' room say the same thing in week one and are grooving through a track by week four.

What should I wear? +

Clothes you do not have to think about and flat trainers with a bit of cushioning. The culture cares more about how you carry yourself than about a label, so once you are comfortable and can move, you are dressed right.

Do you teach real foundations or copy-the-video routines? +

Foundations. Each social dance gets named, its origin explained and its mechanics rebuilt before it goes anywhere near a routine, so it settles into your body properly instead of being traced off a screen.

Can you bring hip-hop to our school or youth group? +

Yes — we take it out across Blackpool and along the Fylde coast, to Bispham, Lytham St Annes, Poulton-le-Fylde, Thornton-Cleveleys and Fleetwood. Put the venue on the enquiry form and we will sort the details.

Do you run classes for children and teenagers? +

We do. Under-18s have their own age-banded sessions with DBS-checked teachers, kept separate from the adult class. Note the dancer's age on the form and we will steer you to the right group.
