Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–10 min

Warm up and find the bounce

A groove-led warm-up that gets the knees soft and the body bouncing on the beat — before any step, street dance lives in that easy up-and-down pulse.

10–20 min

Isolations

Head, chest, shoulders and hips learning to move one at a time, which is the control that stops choreography looking stiff later on.

20–35 min

Foundational steps

A couple of the genuine building blocks — think two-step, a kick-ball-change, a party step — drilled slowly so they are yours, not just copied.

35–50 min

An 8-count combo

The steps get stitched into a short eight-count of choreography, layered in bit by bit so nobody gets lost between counts.

50–60 min

Run it to the track

The combo goes full speed to music, a few times through, until it stops being homework and starts feeling like dancing.

About Street Dance Classes in Blackpool

Street dance is an umbrella, not a single dance — under it sit hip-hop, house, breaking, locking, popping and the commercial choreography you see behind pop stars, each with its own history and feel. A good beginners' class does not pretend they are all the same thing; it gives you the groove and the foundational steps they share, then lets you feel where the branches split.

Blackpool has a genuinely serious street scene to be proud of: House of Wingz has run youth-arts, breaking and Skool of Street programmes in the town since 2006 and brought Breakin' Convention energy to the coast, so this is not a place where street dance is an afterthought (we reference their standing as local context — we are not affiliated with them and never share their contact details). Our street dance classes in Blackpool are the friendly adult-beginner on-ramp: foundations first, choreography second, ego nowhere.

Little Boots — Victoria Hesketh — was born and raised right here in Blackpool, a reminder that the town turns out pop talent as well as ballroom champions, and that is the world our commercial routines nod toward. The studio is minutes from Blackpool North and the Promenade tramway, and we bring sessions out to groups across the Fylde coast.

Why Choose Street Dance in Blackpool?

Real foundations

You leave knowing actual named steps and where they come from, not just one routine to a single song — the difference between learning street dance and miming it.

Groove and musicality

We spend real time on the bounce and how to ride a beat, so your dancing has feel and not just shapes — the thing that separates a mover from a marker.

Low-cost drop-in

A flat £8 with no contract means you can try it, love it or leave it without committing your wallet to a term you are not sure about.

Adults, supported

This is an adult-beginner room where nobody has grown up dancing — expect encouragement, repetition and zero of the competitive edge people fear.

Your Street Dance Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Find your bounce

The pulse first

Before steps come, we get you bouncing on the beat, because every street style rides that groove and it is the thing beginners most often skip.

Loosening up

Isolations teach your body to move in parts, which quietly fixes the stiffness that makes early choreography feel awkward.

02

First foundations

Named steps

You pick up a handful of genuine foundational moves, learned by name and by feel so they transfer to any routine you meet later.

Clean, then quick

We drill each step slow and correct before adding speed, so you build good habits rather than fast bad ones.

03

An 8-count

Steps become choreography

Your foundations get arranged into a short eight-count, layered in gradually so the jump from steps to routine never feels like a cliff.

Owning it

We repeat it until it is muscle memory — the moment you can do it without watching the teacher is the moment it clicks.

04

A routine to a track

Full speed, full song

The combo runs to a real track at tempo, which is where beginners surprise themselves and realise how far an hour took them.

Branching out

From here you can chase hip-hop, house, breaking or commercial — the foundations you built open every one of those doors.

Street Dance in Blackpool FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Do I need to be fit or coordinated already? +

No — coordination is a skill the class trains, not a prerequisite, and we build fitness gently through the hour. If you feel like you have two left feet, you are precisely who beginner street dance is designed for, and by the end of a term the bounce feels natural.

Is this hip-hop, or breaking, or what exactly? +

Street dance is the umbrella and this beginner class teaches the groove and foundations that sit underneath all of it, with a commercial-choreography flavour to the routines. We keep breaking, hip-hop and commercial distinct rather than blurring them together, so you understand what you are actually learning and where to specialise next.

Is the class for adults? +

Yes — this is an adult-beginner room, generally seventeen and up, full of people who did not grow up dancing. There is no assumption of prior training and no competitive pressure, which is exactly why nervous first-timers settle in fast.

What should I wear and bring? +

Comfortable clothes you can move and sweat in, plus clean trainers with a flat, flexible sole — chunky running shoes make pivots awkward, so a simple trainer is ideal. Bring water and, honestly, not much else.

Do I need a sense of rhythm? +

A little helps, but we teach rhythm directly rather than assuming it — the first thing we work on is riding the beat, and it is a trainable skill. People who arrive convinced they have none usually find the bounce within a few weeks.

Do I need a partner? +

No. Street dance is danced solo in a group, so you work on your own within the room and never need to bring anyone — most people come alone and quickly know the regulars.

Can children join, or is it strictly adults? +

These sessions are aimed at adult beginners; younger dancers are better served elsewhere, and Blackpool has excellent youth street provision if that is what you need. Our room is built around adults starting from scratch.

How much does it cost? +

A flat £8 per drop-in session, with no membership and no block to commit to. Turn up when it suits you and pay only for the classes you actually dance.

Where in Blackpool is it, and how do I get there? +

The main studio is in the town-centre area, a few minutes from Blackpool North station and the Promenade tramway, with the exact venue given on booking; we also bring private group sessions out across Blackpool and the Fylde coast. Tram and train both land you close by.
