Ankles First
Before anything sultry, we protect the joints doing the work. Calf raises, ankle mobility and posture drills build the stability that lets you dance in a heel rather than survive in one.
The Walk
The signature of the style. We practise a long, deliberate runway walk across the room — picture climbing the monumental Harris steps into a symmetrical, columned frame. Head level, hips honest, every step placed with intent.
Lines and Levels
Body rolls, hip work, floor-adjacent poses and the rise back up. We drill the shapes that give heels its confidence, each one slowed right down so it feels safe long before it feels sultry.
Build the Number
The moves stitch into a short routine to one track. We think about where the eye travels, how a held pause reads, and how attitude carries a phrase further than any extra spin.
Cool and Strut
Stretch out the calves and hips, then an optional last run of the routine for the joy of it. You walk out of the room taller than you walked in — that is the whole point.
About Heels Classes in Preston
Heels is sensual jazz-funk danced in a raised shoe: part technique, part attitude, wholly about owning the space you stand in. Our Preston class teaches the craft properly — the walk, controlled body isolations, level changes and poised floor work — at a pace that grows confidence rather than nerves. It is choreography built to make you feel powerful, not to perform for anyone else's approval.
There is a fitting Preston image for the poise the style demands. The Harris — the museum, gallery and library that presides over the Flag Market with its Greek-Revival columns and long ceremonial steps — is the city's stage set for arrival. We borrow that feeling: a heels walk is a solo climbing monumental steps into a symmetrical, columned picture, unhurried and completely self-possessed.
Preston keeps a real after-dark character too — the bars and late rooms around Church Street and Fishergate give this kind of glamour a natural home. You need none of that to join us, though. Most people arrive having never danced in a heel, borrow the confidence for an hour, and find it follows them out the door. £8 a drop-in, and trainers are absolutely welcome while you find your feet.

Why Choose Heels in Preston?
Confidence You Keep
The poise you build in class does not stay in the studio. People routinely report standing taller and walking differently long after the music stops.
Heels Optional to Start
Trainers or a low block are perfectly fine for your first weeks. We build ankle strength methodically, so you step up to a higher heel only when your body is genuinely ready.
Joint-Safe by Design
Every session opens with targeted ankle and calf work, and moves are drilled slowly. The glamour is real; the risk-taking with your knees and ankles is not.
Easy Central Location
We run near Fishergate and the Flag Market, moments from the station and bus-station car parks — simple to reach from Fulwood, Ribbleton, Penwortham or an evening in town.
Your Heels Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Finding Your Feet
Weeks 1-3
Often danced in trainers to begin with. You learn the walk, basic isolations and the posture that underpins everything, while your ankles quietly get stronger.
What shifts
The idea of dancing 'sexy' stops feeling exposing and starts feeling like play — the mental hurdle clears first.
Standing Tall
Weeks 4-8
Many dancers move into a modest heel. The walk gets grounded, body rolls smooth out, and level changes stop feeling precarious.
What shifts
Balance becomes reliable, so your attention frees up for expression rather than survival.
Owning the Routine
Months 3-5
Full short numbers come together and we sharpen the performance — the pauses, the eye-line, the attitude that makes a phrase land.
What shifts
You dance for yourself and command the room without needing to prove anything to it.
Full Command
Month 6 onward
Longer choreography in a heel you trust, with genuine dynamics and control. You pick up new routines quickly and make them your own.
What shifts
The confidence is no longer borrowed for an hour — it is simply yours, in the studio and out of it.
Heels in Preston FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
What is a heels dance class like? +
It is sensual jazz-funk choreography danced in a raised shoe, built around a strong walk, body isolations and poised floor work. In Preston we teach it as an hour of confidence-building — technique and attitude in equal measure.
Do I have to wear high heels from day one? +
Not at all. Plenty of people start in trainers or a low block and step up gradually as their ankle strength builds. Dancing in a heel you are not ready for is exactly what we help you avoid.
Is it safe for my ankles and knees? +
It is designed to be. Every class begins with dedicated ankle and calf work, moves are drilled slowly, and you only progress the heel height when your stability is there. Safety underpins the glamour, not the other way round.
Do I need any dance experience? +
No. The class is pitched at beginners, and the walk we start with is something anyone can build on. Confidence, not prior training, is the thing you leave with more of.
What does a class cost? +
A flat £8 per drop-in session in Preston, paid one class at a time. No membership and no contract — you come to whichever classes you fancy.
Where in Preston do heels classes run? +
On the central Fishergate and Flag Market side of the city, with the studio confirmed when you book. It sits inside the walkable triangle of the station, bus station and Flag Market.
How do I get there and park? +
Preston's mainline station and the bus-station multi-storey are both a short walk away, and there is city-centre parking nearby — check closing times if you are in for an evening class. Everything in the centre is walkable once you arrive.
What ages come to the class? +
The adult session runs roughly 17 to 75. Heels rewards control and attitude over youth, so the age spread in the room is genuinely wide.
Can I book heels for a hen or group? +
Yes — it is one of our most requested private and hen sessions. The same choreography runs for your group at a flat-rate quote, ideal for a Preston celebration that wants to feel fabulous together.
