Class Structure
Beginners Class — 60 Minutes
Loosen The Joints
We open on gentle cardio and slow isolations that free the shoulders, ribs and hips one at a time, so nothing feels tight by the time you start covering ground across the floor.
Find The Pocket
The bounce sits under everything, so we hold it on a soft, giving knee and pair it with a rock step and a two-step — party-floor staples that outlast any single routine you learn.
Roots Of The Circle
A short pause to set the moves beside the DJing, rhyming and writing they grew up with. The cypher is where street dance still lives, and it rewards personality over polish — worth knowing before we build tonight's piece.
Stack The Choreography
We assemble the night's eight-count over a current track, feeding it in a couple of counts at a time and dropping to half speed so the whole room arrives together instead of in ones and twos.
Circle Up, Then Cool
An optional freestyle circle gives anyone who wants it a few counts to play, then we stretch out fully so the walk back to Fishergate or the bus station feels easy rather than stiff.
About Hip-Hop Classes in Preston
Preston's street-dance energy has always lived in its younger crews — school troupes, community groups and the adult sessions companies like Fever Dance run around the city and Fulwood. What the city has less of is a plain grown-up starting point, and that is the whole reason our hip-hop classes in Preston exist: adults, from nothing, on the foundations the culture is genuinely built on.
You need no crew, no backstory and no rhythm you could already put a name to — a pair of trainers you can pivot in is the entire kit list. Maybe the movement around the Flag Market and Friargate has caught your eye, or maybe you just want one midweek hour that beats another lap of the gym; either is a perfectly sound reason to stand in the back row for week one.
Every count is broken down slowly, a stumble bothers nobody, and each session is a flat £8 handed over at the door — no membership, no block to commit to. Come once, skip a fortnight, or make it your regular Tuesday; the door stays open whichever way you play it.

Why Choose Hip-Hop in Preston?
Cardio In Disguise
An hour of grooving, drilling and repeating burns through energy like a gym circuit, but your head stays so busy counting that the effort barely registers until you reach the stretch.
Freestyle Stops Scaring You
We slip small doses of improvising in from the first week, so the cypher shifts from the moment you dread into the moment you quietly turn up early for.
Grounded In Preston
The foundations here are the same ones the city's youth crews and adult sessions already run on, so a later jam or a different Preston studio feels like known ground rather than a fresh start.
Come Exactly As You Are
Wear whatever you can move in, bring trainers, and leave any backstory at home — this hour is aimed squarely at people who have honestly never set foot in a street class.
Your Hip-Hop Journey
From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.
Lock The Groove
One Idea, Done Right
The first hour parks on a single thing — the bounce riding a soft knee. Nail that feeling and every move stacked on later has solid ground beneath it.
Nothing Here To Fail
Counts stay short and loop until the body owns them, so you leave holding one groove that is dependably, reliably yours.
Runs Take Shape
Joining The Dots
You start linking a few moves into a short run and closing the gaps between them, which is the point where the steps begin to feel like dancing rather than drilling.
Half Speed Is Your Friend
We drop the tempo the instant a transition bites, then nudge it back up, so the run tightens without ever getting away from you.
The Piece Lands
Full Track, Full Tempo
The separate runs join into the night's routine and run to the actual song at speed — the moment most people quietly surprise themselves.
Play In The Circle
With the choreography secure, the freestyle circle turns into somewhere to spend a move of your own rather than something to sit out.
It Becomes A Habit
Your Standing Hour
Weeks in, the warm-up is second nature and picking up new eight-counts gets noticeably quicker every session.
Take It Anywhere
The groove and the vocabulary travel to any jam, wedding floor or class in Preston or beyond — you carry the foundation around with you.
Hip-Hop in Preston FAQ
Everything you need to know before your first class.
Do I need any dance experience to start? +
None whatsoever. These hip-hop classes in Preston are built for complete adult beginners — we start from the bounce and the basic social steps, so week one assumes you have never danced before.
How much does a class cost? +
A flat £8, paid at the door each time you come. There is no membership, no block booking and no contract — you cover only the sessions you actually turn up to.
What should I wear and bring? +
Anything you can move freely in — joggers or leggings and a comfortable top — plus trainers you can pivot in and a water bottle. No special kit and no dance shoes needed.
Where in Preston are the classes held? +
In a confirmed studio around the city centre — the Fishergate, Friargate and Flag Market side — with a Fulwood-side option too. The exact venue is confirmed when you book.
Do I need to bring a partner or a group? +
No. Hip-hop is danced solo in the line, so turning up on your own is completely normal — plenty of people do, and you will not be the only first-timer in the room.
How old do I need to be? +
Our adult classes are pitched at 17 to 75. If you are after children's street-dance sessions, get in touch and we can point you toward a suitable local option.
Is there any freestyle, or is it all set routines? +
Both. Most of the hour builds a set routine, but we fold small, low-pressure bits of freestyle in from the start so the optional end-of-class circle never feels intimidating.
What if I miss a week? +
No problem at all — because you pay per session there is nothing to fall behind on. Drop back in whenever suits and we will fold you straight back into the routine.
Can I book a hip-hop session for a private group? +
Yes. Alongside the drop-in classes we can arrange a private group session for a birthday, work social or stag or hen do — email us with your numbers and dates and we will sort it.
