How Your Chicago Party Runs

Arrive and get in character

Your choreographer meets you at a partner studio or your own venue, music ready. A quick jazz warm-up, a lesson in the Fosse basics — rolled shoulders, tilted heads, deadpan stares — and the giggles start early.

Learn your Fosse-style routine

The routine draws on Chicago's most famous numbers and is taught in short sections, so nobody gets left behind. The bride takes the Roxie spot at the front; everyone else forms her merry murderess chorus.

The filmed finale

Once it clicks, it's lights down and cameras out for a full filmed performance. It lands straight in the group chat — and more than a few groups restage it on the wedding dance floor.

Why Chicago for a Hen Party?

Chicago is the hen party theme for groups who want glamour with a smirk. The story runs on scheming women, showbiz lawyers and tabloid fame, and the dancing matches: slinky, sharp and very funny when twelve of you do it in a hotel function room. It photographs beautifully too — all silhouettes and attitude.

The style is pure Bob Fosse: small, controlled moves — a shoulder roll, a hip pop, a slow head turn — that look sensational without demanding splits or stamina. Your choreographer strips the vocabulary down to steps every beginner can carry, then stitches them into a routine that feels straight off the West End stage.

Britain has never really let Chicago go. It has played the West End on and off since 1997, tours the UK constantly, and the 2002 film — six Oscars, including Best Picture — made Cell Block Tango a cultural shorthand for stylish revenge. Half your group already knows the poses. The other half will by teatime.

Small moves, big attitude — Fosse built a style beginners look brilliant doing.

All That Jazz

The opener that defines the show — slow, smoky and dripping with confidence. The classic backbone for a hen routine.

Cell Block Tango

Six women, six stories, zero remorse. Perfect for casting the whole group — everyone gets a moment.

Hot Honey Rag

The strutting side-by-side finale — partner work made for the bride and her chief bridesmaid.

Razzle Dazzle

Showbiz swagger and jazz hands. The easiest number to ham up for the camera.

When You're Good to Mama

Big, brassy and commanding — ideal for the mother of the bride who claims she is only watching.

Roxie

The spotlight number. The bride front and centre while the group frames her — exactly as it should be.

Chicago Facts Worth Repeating

Broadway's longest-running American musical

The 1996 revival of Chicago is still running — the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.

Built by Bob Fosse

Bob Fosse co-wrote, directed and choreographed the 1975 original. The rolled shoulders and tilted hats are his signature.

Based on real trials

It all comes from a 1926 play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, a reporter who covered real Jazz Age murder trials in Chicago.

An Oscar-sweeping film

The 2002 film won six Academy Awards including Best Picture — the first musical to take the top prize since Oliver! in 1968.

Chicago Questions, Answered

How much does a Chicago hen party dance class cost?

One flat rate for the whole group: from £140 plus venue hire for a one-hour class, or £165 plus venue for ninety minutes. Six hens or twenty-six, the price never moves — no per-person maths, no penalty when plans change.

Can the choreographer come to our accommodation?

Yes — in every city we cover, your choreographer can come to your hotel, Airbnb or hired hall, or we can arrange a partner studio. You just need enough space to move and a speaker.

Do we need dance experience for the Fosse style?

None at all. Fosse technique is famously about small, controlled moves rather than athleticism, which makes Chicago one of the most beginner-friendly themes we teach. If you can shrug, you can Fosse.

Should we bring Chicago costumes?

We don't supply props or costumes, but most groups bring their own — think little black dresses, fishnets, bowler hats and feather boas. All black with red lipstick does the job brilliantly.
